hepringyourderp: “BROTHER JUST PASSED THE LINE BY IMPLYING EVERYONE ON THE BBC IS UGLY. MARTIN FREEMAN. UGLY? YOU BITCH.”

… everyone on BBC is… UGLY? Well…

… Sorry, he was saying?

See, to me, BBC is just a giant cult of attractive people set out to make us feel bad. His argument is invalid.

and please, people, feel free to add more.

No new Doctor Who until Autumn… up until Sunday and for long after (I’m betting on a thirty-seven year hiatus), no Sherlock. I’m convinced nothing will ever scrape the tips of the amazing quality of these two shows. These two beautiful works of televised art. ART.

But… what do I do with my life now?! What should I watch now?? SO MANY RERUNS. I NEED NEW MATERIAL. I’ve watched a couple episodes of Supernatural and I’m not really sure that I’d enjoy it. I’ve heard Merlin is good, is Merlin good? I like good things. But is it AS good? Or is it CLOSE to as good?

As much as I believe Ten and Rose belong together, so do I believe Eleven and River belong together. As difficult as it is to believe, when The Doctor regenerates, he ultimately becomes a  different man. Ten and Eleven are incredibly different, and though the memories are still fond, in the end, a different man will end up with a different woman.

A Day in the Life of a Pond: meet “imaginary” Raggedy Doctor man, wait a long time, he doesn’t come back but you tell stories and obsess, become elementary school friends with boy named Rory, both of you befriend troubled child named Melody, Rory shows up to school with bad haircut, Rory learns to play guitar so he can say it was because he was in band, think BFF Rory is gay whole life, realize he likes you, get together in high school, become a nurse and a kissogram, Raggedy Doctor returns, fight evil with him, Swaggedy Doctor leaves, get engaged, wait for two years, Doctor returns, run away with him on night before wedding, save some planets, unknowingly meet own daughter in forest, come home and attempt to make out with Doctor, grab Rory, go on more adventures, Rory dies and ceases to exist, forget about Rory, go on more adventures, pandorica opens, find plastic Roman centurion Rory, don’t remember, vegetate in pandorica for 2,000 years, Rory waits with you then becomes more badass, The Doctor dies and ceases to exist, finally get married, Doctor comes back too and shows up at wedding, remember Doctor, go back to TARDIS, conceive daughter in time vortex, roleplay on a spaceship on Christmas, watch best friend get shot, run into younger best friend in Utah, save husband’s life on pirate ship, everyone dies a few more times, fight against planet possessing the TARDIS whilst trapped, win, realize you’re some fake flesh lab-generated person, get melted by screwdriver, wake up in creepy place with a giant woman face, unexpectedly give birth, husband and doctor save wife and child, child is flesh and then melts, suddenly a wild River Song appears, oh wait she’s your daughter, she’s also your childhood best friend whom you named your daughter after, realize you named daughter after daughter, daughter tries to kill best friend many times, best friend tries to save her, best friend succeeds and dies again, daughter falls in love with best friend and gives best friend all remaining regenerations, wife ends up on random planet for 36 years, husband has to pick old wife or current wife, old wife dies and never existed, daughter has to kill Doctor, instead freezes and slowly kills all of time, forget that you’re married, marry your daughter and your best friend anyway, best friend dies, loljk, realize you are your BFF’s in-laws, realize you kissed your son-in law, drink a lot of wine to forget about it, wait two years, set place for BFF at Christmas, he finally shows up, make him cry, carry on as if nothing ever happened.

Your argument is invalid.

You know what’s so magnificent yet so sad to think about? The Doctor and River are married, so we all know that makes Amy and Rory his mother and father in law. They are a family. They are so close that they even seem like family. The way in which they are all related is probably so weird for them, because although they’re all related now, due to the strange ways and times they meet, River doesn’t seem like their child and The Doctor doesn’t seem like their son-in-law. They’re all friends. It fits, though, because since Rory waited all 2,000 years with Amy, they are the oldest out of the four of them. So, although The Doctor is always in charge, in the end they are the “parental figures.” It’s going to be so, so sad when they go this season and when River comes to her end in the library with Ten, because this time he isn’t just losing a friend or a passing companion, he’s not losing a lover like he did Rose… he’s losing his family.

She may be insane, but in an endearing way. Who wouldn’t be insane if you were raised the way she was? Lived the way she had? She is so strong and confident. She would do anything for love. I love her.

I am so fucking sick of people saying that someone younger should have been cast as River Song!

ravens-nest:

lickmydarkmark:

Not only is Alex one of the most alluring women on television but she is a fantastic actress.

To be perfectly honest, I love that River Song looks so much older than the Doctor. It is one of the reasons I am enjoying her so much. Curvaceous, mature, and not afraid or ashamed of her own body and sexuality: she is the epitome of natural beauty. For a television show to depict an older curvaceous woman in a relationship with the “younger” male hero lead is wonderful. How often do you see that and it’s not about her being a “cougar” who seduces him, often just for sex? The focus in Doctor Who is sci-fi action and adventure, not “cougar” love.

I like other shows which depict an older woman with a younger man but the primary focus is on the seduction/sex and/or they almost always end up with people their own age. I really don’t believe that’s always true in real life. Love is not about age, it’s about common interests, attraction, and time spent together. While that is often determined by generation, people from two different generations can have a lot in common and build a relationship from there.

Furthermore, I love that it’s not even about their ages anyway. The Doctor looks in his 20s but is actually 1103. And who the hell knows how old River is exactly; she could be anywhere from 60 to 600 at any given point in time.

The very nature of Time Lords reduces the importance of both physical beauty and physical age. The Doctor’s youngest form (First Doctor) looks the most advanced in age and his oldest form (Eleventh Doctor) looks the youngest in age. He has been short and dumpy; tall and suave; skinny and awkward; muscled and dangerous. The only constant is that the Doctor is always an amazing hero of high intelligence.

The very concept of Time Lords and their ability to regenerate could be seen a direct assault on ageism and stereotypical ideas of what society constitutes as physical beauty. The fact that so many miss this aspect of Doctor Who is saddening to me.

Ladies, gentlemen, undecided, robot, and other, please read all of the things said here.
